Training via Virtual Reality

The safety of women and men working on HV cable systems is our priority

Continuous training

The health and safety of those who work on your sites - service providers or employees - are key priorities. Nexans shares this commitment and its values: the health and safety of our employees, as well as those of all our partners, is a top priority. High voltage work environments are particularly demanding and Nexans has made continuous training a basic requirement for ensuring the safety and proper execution of interventions on the networks.

VR Training set-up
Extensive practice - without expensive installations

Nexans has always organized training for its teams and those of its customers, in order to guarantee safety during operations. These practical training courses required real and expensive facilities. With the advent of digital tools like Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality, practices and expectations are changing. Digital is installed in all our daily activities, at the office, on building sites and thus also in the practical organisation of training, especially those dealing with security. This led us to develop a training module using virtual reality, to simulate real situations in dangerous environments.

Total immersion - Totally safe

The high voltage 20,000 volt cable sheath dielectric test is an important step that involves risks for our employees on the work site.
Virtual reality allows a total immersion experience in a digital environment and to carry out a sensor-motor activity in an artificial world in complete safety. The tool has become standard in the training curriculum for all Nexans teams, and will be applied in all training courses of our partners. A first pilot session showed a clear impact with clear results in terms of security.

Towards new applications

Virtual reality avoids significant physical installations and optimizes training time and costs. It allows to repeat as many times as wanted the operation safely until good memorization of good practices.
Beyond the training, this module becomes a real prescriber of good practices.
New applications are being studied and developed, the possibilities of linking virtual reality to digital means of control and monitoring on site are almost endless.
